MOST rural dwellers in Vanua Levu are not aware of the rural solar system projects, says Department of Energy”s officer-in-charge northern Waisea Cavunailoa.
Mr Cavunailoa said government this year allocated $3 million for rural solar system projects in the north and they had so far only completed projects in two villages and a primary school in Macuata.
“We aim to extend our services as far as Taveuni, Bua and parts of Cakaudrove,”? Mr Cavunailoa said.
“We are not only trying to provide better lights to rural dwellers but we are also focusing on improving their living standards,” he said.
“We have started to publish expression of interests so local solar companies can be offered the tender to carry out the installation work.
“The expression of interests are to cater for rural areas already identified by the department for the project,”? he said.
